SCHEME
ON DEMONSTRATION & PROMOTION ) OF SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC DEVICES/
SYSTEMS IN URBAN AREAS
The Ministry of Non-conventional Energy Sources, Govt. of India has launched a new scheme on “Demonstration & Promotion of Solar Photovoltaic Devices/ Systems in Urban Areas with the objective to demonstrate effective alternate solutions for community/ institution for low power solar based systems in urban areas, to create awareness among the beneficiaries about the benefits of photovoltaic devices/ systems in urban areas and to reduce the burden on conventional electricity in cities/ towns and to divert the energy thus saved to small towns and villages that face acute shortage of power. Under this scheme, the following systems/ devices are to be promoted:

Savings
Water output is equal to 5 HP diesel pump set with
3 hours running
per
day for 240 day /year ( for irrigation
purposes).
Annual electricity saving of 3360 units.
Saving of cross subsidy of Rs. 5712/- ( per pump
set) per year.
At generation point, this would result into new capacity addition of
3.6
KW per pump set which could
have come with an investment of
Rs. 1.44 lacs at generation end
