Two Day Training on Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) and Green Buildings (GRIHA) on 16th & 17th Feb 2011
The Department of Renewable Energy, Haryana which is the State Designed Agency for implementing the Energy Conservation Programmes and the provisions of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001, has organized a “ Two Day Training on Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) and Green Buildings (GRIHA) on 16th & 17th Feb 2011,in Committee Room of Gymkhana Club, Sector 15, Faridabad for architects/ engineers and private builders.
Briefing about this training programme, Sh. D.K. Chopra, Project Director, Renewable Energy Department, Haryana informed that the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has launched the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) with the objective to set the minimum energy performance standards for design & construction of large commercial buildings. Further, The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Govt. of India is promoting the National rating system, GRIHA, develop as an evaluation tool to help design, build, operate and maintain a resource-efficient – built environment. By implementation of the ECBC, there shall be average reduction inenergy use ranging between 25% to 40%. Therefore there is a need of capacity building and creating awareness among the architects, engineers & public at large for energy conservation in the building sector through Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) & GRIHA rating. Accordingly, this training has been organized for the various stakeholders like Architects, Planners, construction engineers and real estate developers with an objective to make all new government buildings ECBC compliant.
In this training programme experts from TheEnergy and Resource Institute (TERI), which is a pioneer institute in energy efficient building design shared their knowledge and experience. The participants got an opportunity of hands on training on ECOTECT Software which enables optimizing building designs with default data and intelligence. It covers a whole range of simulation and analysis function required to understand how a building will perform with respect to solar and daylight conditions.
He further informed that Haryana is the First State in the country to modify Haryana Schedule of Rates (HSR) , to incorporate the energy efficient building material (AAC block , fly ash bricks , UPVC windows , double glass glazing, polystyrene foam , heat resistant tiles for roof insulation) Electrical items like CFL , Street light luminary , and Solar Water Heating System etc. to implement ECBC in the State. Further for amending the Building Bye-laws , the draft of the recommendations regarding the specific modification of MunicipalBuilding Bye-laws and HUDA have been prepared and are under consideration to finalize.
About 50 participants from various stakeholders departments of the State i.e. Architecture department, Town & Country planning department, PWD (B&R), HUDA, Housing Board, Urban Local Bodies department, Tourism and Police Housing Corporation along with town planners, engineers and real estate developers, participated in this training programme. Apart from above the Architects & Engineers of the other State/Central Govt. Departments along with Private Architects, Engineers, Builders, Developers etc. also attended this training programme.
