SOLAR COOKER PROGRAMME
For
solar cooking there are two methods of collecting sun’s energy
-Trapping
it in a box (e.g. a box type solar cooker)
-Focussing
it to a point to cook (e.g. a parabolic / dish type concentrating
solar cooker).
A dish type solar cooker consists of a dish of 1.4 m dia made of
thin bright anodized
Aluminium reflectors erected on a powder coated MS stand.
A
Dish type solar cooker can cook food for about 10 to 15 people in 1˝
to 2 hours.
COST
:
The cost of a box type solar cooker is approximately Rs.1800/-. The
State Government is promoting the use of box type solar cookers by
providing a subsidy of
Rs.500/- per solar cooker.
The cost of a dish type solar cooker is approximately Rs.5100/-. The
Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Govt. of India is promoting
dish type solar cookers by providing subsidy @ 30% of the cost of
the solar cooker limited to Rs.1500/- per dish type solar cooker and
the State Govt. is providing subsidy on dish type solar cooker @
Rs.1500/-. The dish type
solar cooker is available to the users at a cost of Rs.2100/-
including the cost of a 5 liter pressure cooker.
Eligibility:
As only women
are the end users of this technology, only women residents of
Haryana are eligible for subsidy under the scheme. The cooker are available from the office of the Additional Deputy Commissioner office of the concerned districts
Achievements of HAREDA
So
far, 22,721 box type solar cookers and 4129 dish type solar cookers
have been sold in the State.
Solar Water Heating System Programme
Solar water heating is a most efficient and
techno-economically viable technology for
meeting the hot water
requirement in 60 to 120 degree temperature ranges.
These systems are suitable for Hotels, Dairies,
Hospitals, Restaurants, Homes and
Process Industries were hot water
is required.
It works for almost 300 sunny days in a year.
A solar water heater works on the principle of the
property of black bodies to absorb
heat faster. A collector has a
specially black coated copper sheet which absorbs the
solar energy
and transfers it to the water flowing through tubes on its back side.
The hot water being lighter, rises up and
is stored in the insulated hot water tank.
This hot water can be
used when required.
COST & SAVINGS:
A 100 litres per day system costs about Rs.
21,900/-.
Saves about Rs. 2200/- units of electricity
annually.
The payback period ranges from 3 to 5 years
depending upon the use and fuel
replaced.
In addition to this, a 100litre per day solar water
heating system prevents the
emissions of 1.5 tonnes of CO2 annually.
For
the sake of providing service and quality equipments to the users,
HAREDA ranges a rate contract for supply and installation of solar
water heating systems and installs the system under its supervision.
Services charges @ 5% of the project cost are charged for the
services rendered. The prevalent rates of solar water heating
systems of various capacities and the addresses of the supplies on

Solar AIR Heating / STEAM
GENERATION
Solar Thermal Systems for Air Heating/ Steam Generating Applications
Under this programme, Solar Flat Plate Collector (FPC) have
been found to be very useful specially in agriculture and food
industries for air heating. These industries generally require hot air at low temperature
(50-80 Deg.C.) as process heat for drying of various products such
as tea leaves, coffee beans and also for processing of fruits,
spices, cereals, mushroom, papad, vegetables, fish, sea food etc. Hot air is also required in industries such as leather,
textile, chemicals, rubber, paper, pharmaceuticals etc.
MNES, Govt. of India shall provide 50% of the cost
of the system subject to a maximum of Rs.2,500/- per sq. mtr. of
collector area for FPC based solar air heating systems/ dryers for
non-profit making institutions/ organizations. 35% of the cost of system subject to maximum of Rs.1750/- per
sq. mtr. of collector area for FPC based solar air heating systems/
dryers for commercial / industrial organizations (profit making and
claiming depreciation).
Solar Concentrating System for heating air /
generating steam directly or through heating of oil
Under this programme, Solar
Concentrating systems comprising of parabolic dishes known as
“Scheffler” dishes have been found to be useful for generating
steam to cook food for 100 and 10000 of people in Community Kitchens
specially at religious places.
MNES, Govt. of India shall provide 50% of the cost
of the system subject to a maximum of Rs.5,000/- per sq. mtr. of
dish area for Solar Concentrating Systems for non-profit making
institutions/ organizations. 35% of the cost of system subject to
maximum of Rs.3500/- per sq. mtr. of dish area for Solar
Concentrating Systems for commercial / industrial organizations
(profit making and claiming depreciation).
Solar Passive Architecture Programme
The need
Buildings, as they are designed today, contribute to
serious energy and environmental problems because of excessive
consumption of resources (energy, water & land) by them during
both the construction phase and use.
Studies show that residential and commercial sectors in
India
together account for 25% of the countries total electricity
consumption, a major portion of which is used in buildings. Energy
Efficient Solar Buildings are the need of hour and solar passive
architecture needs to integrated into the planning and design
process and all buildings.
What
is Energy Efficient building design ?
Energy
Efficient
Solar
Building
is defined as a building that makes maximum use of Renewable Energy
ad resources during construction and operation. An energy efficient
solar building:
·
maximizes
use of efficient building materials and construction practices;
·
optimizes
use of onsite sources and sinks by bio-climatic architectural
practices;
·
uses
minimum energy to power itself;
·
uses
efficient equipment to meet its lighting, air-conditioning, and
other needs;
·
maximizes
use of renewable sources of energy; and
·
uses
efficient waste and water management practices and provides
comfortable and hygienic indoor working conditions.
Sustainable
buildings re evolved through a design process that looks into all
aspects of building and systems planning, design, construction, and
operation and critically evaluates the impacts of each design
decision on the environment to arrive at viable design solutions to
minimize the negative impacts and enhance the positive impacts on
the environment.
HAREDA
is implementing a programme on promotion of solar passive
architectural concepts with
an objective
-To
promote energy efficient building designs.
-Building
construction with optimum use of solar energy.
-Other
forms of ambient energy in energy management.
INCENTIVES
:
To
demonstrate this concept, the Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy
Sources, Govt. of India (MNES/GOI) provides 50% of the cost of DPR
subject to the maximum of Rs 2 lacs for its preparation including
detailed building and architectural drawings for public/private
institutional buildings.
In
addition to this, the MNES/GOI provides partial financial assistance
limited to 10% of the cost of the building with a maximum of Rs.
50.00 lacs for each project in Government/ Public sector( limited to
two projects per State). The cost of any solar system installed in
the building is not included in the project cost.
The
State Govt. also provides matching financial assistance for preparation of
detailed project report and construction of a building designed on solar building
design principles .
Govt./Semi Govt. Departments may send
their proposals to HAREDA for availing the financial assistance
giving the details of the project, project site, strategies of
planning and design and specific architectural features along with
the estimates cost of the building.
Activities Initiated by

Broad
guidelines on energy efficient building design concepts have been
circulated to all line departments and are also available on the
website of HAREDA.
